Singer-songwriter Laura Folkers blends pop, jazz and folk elements with expressive harmonies and rhythms. A typical feature is her performance with her nylon acoustic guitar, which also is the source of most of her song ideas. In her intimate and lively songs, Laura Folkers tells of very personal experiences, thoughts, observations and “everything that wants to be expressed through music”. You can hear curiosity and joy, but also a tendency towards the mystical and melancholy. She performs solo, in a duo with percussionist Anton Thelemann or with a four-piece band.
In November 2023, she and her band won first place at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Rock Festival, making her one of the finalists in the newcomer national final Local Heros 2024.
At the beginning of this year, Laura Folkers completed her studies in pop and world music with classical music (majoring in singing) at the Rostock Hochschule für Musik und Theater. She now lives back in her adopted home of Halle (Saale).
“Music and songwriting have always been great ways for me to express myself, process emotions or communicate. I spent a lot of time at music school as a child and also spent a lot of time with my instruments (singing, guitar, piano). I still experiment and improvise a lot and observe which themes want to come out. That’s how most of my songs are created.”
